UTSA College of Business
Paralegal Program
Paralegal Program

The Center for Professional Excellence (CPE) at UTSA is proud to offer the Paralegal Certificate Program. This program is designed and taught by practicing attorneys to prepare students to be knowledgeable, ethical, and effective assistants to attorneys while emphasizing legal areas where paralegals are most in demand. Paralegals, also called legal assistants, perform many tasks under attorney supervision, such as legal research, document drafting, fact investigation, case management, and preparation for trial. The program assumes no legal knowledge, but rather helps students build skills from the ground up at an accelerated rate. This program is appropriate for those entering the paralegal profession as well as those already in the legal field.

Overview

The program is comprised of three courses: Paralegal 1, Paralegal 2, and Paralegal 3, which are approximately 13 weeks each. The entire program can be completed in 11 months. Although students will receive a broad-based education developing the knowledge needed to work in any jurisdiction, the program recognizes that the law varies from state to state and prepares students to work in a Texas law office. Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive the UTSA Paralegal Certificate. The program, along with college credit or experience as a legal assistant, qualifies you to seek national certification, though many employers do not require the Certified Paralegal/Certified Legal Assistant certification to work as a paralegal.

Students may either take the program at the UTSA Main Campus or online. The curriculum, schedule and cost are the same for both programs.

This program offers affordable tuition, work-friendly scheduling, web-enhanced learning and a certificate recognized by legal employers. Classes begin every spring, summer and fall.
