What is a Paralegal?
Paralegals, also known as legal assistants, perform many legal tasks under attorney supervision, including document drafting, legal research, fact investigation, case management and preparation for trial.
Who should enroll in the Paralegal Certificate Program?
Paralegal professionals work with attorneys, their clients and court personnel in a fast-paced environment. People with high-quality communication skills; strong reading ability; an aptitude for writing; and good grammar, computer literacy and organizational skills are best suited for a career in the paralegal field. This program also creates an excellent foundation for those interested in attending law school.

What are the Prerequesites for the Paralegal Certificate Program?
Students wishing to enroll in the Paralegal Certificate Program are required to have a minimum of 12 semester hours of college credit, including freshman English, and should have good typing skills. Additionally, it is required that program participants be familiar with the Internet and Microsoft Word and/or WordPerfect. Individuals with sufficient law-related or other relevant work experience may apply for a waiver of the minimum admissions requirements. It is recommended that students have a two-year associate degree or a four-year bachelor's degree.
